| 16:9 High Definition Television Aspect Ratio is equivalent to 1.77:1 Film Aspect Ratio. A 4:3 downconversion to Standard Definition Television through a digital downconverter can result in improved Standard Definition resolution in both luma and weighted chromanance channels. The common practice for Cinematographers is to frame for widescreen (in High Definition, this is 16:9), and protect for 4:3. Studio cameras are physically "balanced" for pan and tilt with large lens systems (which improve light gathering characteristics), and offer additional features such as uncompressed High Definition digital signal output over fiber to camera control units, and sometimes there are added digital processing and operator controls. | |
