Optional HVR-DR60 Hard Disk Drive (60GB)
The HVR-DR60, when used together with the HVR-V1U, records .M2T HDV-2 (no progressive recording), .AVI (Type 1) and Raw .DV file formats.  It has a computer mode (SBP2) for transfers of files when connected to a host PC.

The HVR-M15AU is a 50/59.94Hz selectable lightweight, compact HDV 1080i VTR capable of standard or mini-cassette record and playback of Sony HDV-2 1080i, and Sony coompatible 1080P, and DVCAM™, and DV (SP).  Sony HDV-2 1080i or Sony compatible 1080P recorded tapes can also be downconverted with time code to an appropriate DVCAM VTR using the standard definition DV output mode via a 6-pin i.LINKŪ connection.  Additionally, the i.LINKŪ HDV Mode, and the DV/DVCAM Modes allow for time code input.  The HVR-M15AU will also playback select HDV-1 720p pre-recorded tapes but only with analog output, not over i.LINKŪ HDV as a native transport stream (*note: compatibility of HDV from different manufacturers is actually not guaranteed).

**On the HVR-M15AU, there is no built-in speaker, no headphones jack, there are no edge crop adjustments for HD downconvert, there is no assign button, no "Duplicate Plus" feature, no HDMI output, there is no LCD panel display, and no Cassette Memory Function
.

Record up to 276 minutes of HDV-2 using Sony's PHDV-276DM videotape (tape not included).  The iLink output for 1080 does not support letterbox mode when iLink down convert is selected.  This model does not support 80 minute mini-DV tapes.   HDV-2 recording and HDV-2 I/O require an IEC HDV-2 supported 6-pin i.LINKŪ protocol HDV device connection and Sony compatible transport stream.

Optional Accessories for HVR-M15AU:
