DSR-2000A
Edit Rec/Player (NTSC Only)

I-Link I/O (6-pin) is Standard*.  Pre-Read Editing Capability (not available on SDTI/QSDI or I-Link Interfaces), DMC (Dynamic Motion Control) -1 to +1x normal speed.  Plays all NTSC DV (25Mbps) format recorded tapes, including NTSC DV tapes recorded in LP mode and NTSC DVCPRO tapes without an adapter.  Incorporating a front panel with a built-in Jog/Shuttle dial allows two-machine RS-422 editing with 9-pin serial cable "throughput" connection (RCC-5G cable included).

*The new DSR-2000A will automatically lock audio for DV through the I-Link interface.   Playback signal of DVCPRO recorded tape is not available via the DSR-2000A I-Link interface.  The I-Link interface cannot be combined with other signal interfaces for input selection.   Transitions between 2 channel audio mode and 4 channel audio mode should not be attempted.

*Note: in all cases in this VTR, HD-SDI output from DSBK-2020 is from 525/59.94 upconversion only; in E-E mode (mandated 525/59.94 source video), only the SDI & analog inputs are upconverted to HD-SDI output, not IEEE or SDTI. You can install only one of either the new DSBK-2020 HD Upconverter Board or the discontinued DSBK-190 I-Link Board in the discontinued DSR-2000 (the older version of this VTR).  Both boards cannot co-exist.

DSR-2000A Notes
The I-Link Connector I/O (6-pin) is standard (supplied) on the DSR-2000A model.   Additionally, the supplied I-Link connection in conjunction with the capability of the DSR-2000A model, will now lock audio from a DV source that is either input, or output.   Transitions between 2 channel audio mode and 4 channel audio mode should not be attempted.

SDI Component Digital Output with embedded audio (converted to/from 48kHz) and 2 pair 75 Ohm (BNC) AES-3ID digital Audio I/O are standard.  Digital DVCAM 25 Mb/sec 8-bit 5:1 DV type DCT based compression, interlaced 525/30frame. NTSC (480 active line) 13.5MHz/3.375MHz 4:1:1 sampled, choice of NTSC DV (BOTH LP & SP mode) edit playback, Mini 63 minutes or less or Standard Cassettes.

The old optional I-Link Connector I/O board, model DSBK190 (6-pin) is no longer applicable because of the supplied I-Link I/O as standard.  You can install only one of either the new DSBK-2020 HD Upconverter Board or the discontinued DSBK-190 I-Link Board in the discontinued DSR-2000 (the older version of this VTR).  Both boards cannot co-exist.

Closed Caption function (NTSC unit only).

The optional front panel DSBK-200 which enabled the editor to perform the functions of the DSR-2000 from a distance of up to 10m (meters) was discontinued on 12/29/02 with no remaining inventory and no replacement model.  The I-Link interface cannot be combined with other signal interfaces for input selection.   The DSBK210 SDTI-CP MPEG Output Option was discontinued.

**In all cases in this player, HD-SDI output from DSBK-1820 is from 525/59.94 upconversion only; the DSBK-1801 cannot be installed in the DSR1600A if it has the DSBK-1601 AES Output Board or DSBK-1602 SDTI Output Board installed.  However, when the DSBK-1820 is installed in this player it has SDI & AES/EBU output functionality.   The DSBK-1820 can be installed in the discontinued DSR-1600, but then the only other board that can be simultaneously installed in that unit would be the discontinued DSBK-1803 I-Link Board.

DSR-1500A

Digital DV/DVCAM Rec./Play, 525i/59.94; DV is (SP mode only) Edit playback, NTSC DVCPRO Edit playback** with analog output, SDI optional output, I-Link I/O is standard.  Mini 63 minutes or less or Standard Cassettes. Also has SDI I/O Board Option, Analog Input Board Option (with 2 Ch balanced analog audio). Time Code I/O is on the main unit back panel.  There may be some limitations with audio and editing.*  There is currently no HD upconversion board option for this model.

*DV Assemble or Insert Recording is not possible on this unit and only SP mode recording is supported.  NTSC back space editing is possible in certain conditions as long as there is no change in mode between DV and DVCAM or between 2 and 4 channel audio mode using the optional DSRM10 Wired remote.  Insert edit in DVCAM for video or AES/analog audio (if equipped with the appropriate board) is available only through external 9-pin serial control.

**Playback video signal of DVCPRO recorded tape is available via the special new I-Link standard interface on the DSR-1500A (only), however, audio may not be supported from DVCPRO over the I-Link.  On DV/DVCAM, cross-fade of audio is not supported between edit points, which may create clicks or pops.  The I-Link interface cannot be combined with other signal interfaces for input selection.   Transitions between 2 channel audio mode and 4 channel audio mode should not be attempted.

***To use the DSBK-1505 board, a firmware upgrade is required for all units with serial numbers prior to 120001 is required at additional cost (contact an authorized Sony Service Center). There is no published performance difference to the user, however, for the new DSBK-1505 board.

Digital NTSC DV/DVCAM 25 Mb/sec 8-bit 5:1 DV type DCT based compression, interlaced 525/30frame format NTSC (480 active line), giving you a choice of NTSC DV (SP mode only) playback, or NTSC DV/DVCAM edit recording/edit playback. Mini 63 minutes or less or Standard Cassettes.

The NTSC DSR-45A comes standard with RS-422A (as a player only) and RS-232C interfaces. Equipped with a 2-inch built-in color LCD, the DSR-45A displays information including; audio level, system status, and the working image.  The DSR-45A is equipped with Time Code I/O (BNC), and a 4-pin I-Link (DV) interface.  The DSR-45A will transform unlocked audio into locked audio at the iLink interface (on DV playback, or upon input).   The DSR45A has an external reference input for (limited) synchronized playback with other VTRs, and is equipped with component analog input and output, balanced audio out (XLR), unbalanced audio input (pin jack connectors), analog composite and Y/C I/O.

The I-Link interface cannot be combined with other signal interfaces for input selection.  The DSR45A is not equipped with a synchronization feature (no capstan servo bump), and may be only selectively used in A/B roll editing as a source feeder in situations which do not create a lock-up problem between VTRs.  This unit does not perform Assemble edits, however, with regard to I-Link recording (where picture and audio get replaced or recorded together), frame continuity between frame boundaries is possible plus or minus 5 frames, assuming you have not changed modes from DV to DVCAM, or have not changed audio modes from 2 channels to/from 4 channels, and that you have initiated the unit to record within a discernable frame boundary (such as adding on to a previously recorded section at the last frame, or recording over a section.

When recording in DV (SP mode), transitions between cut to cut may not be smooth, and transitions between DV and DVCAM or in DVCAM between 2 channel audio mode and 4 channel audio mode should not be attempted.   There is no setup removal upon analog input.  The output setup level can be adjusted, as can the video output level and chrominance signal output level.
